Protein is an essential macronutrient made up of amino acids and is found in every cell of the body. Protein is the building block of muscles, skin, bones, organs, hair, and nails. Adequate protein intake is essential to keep cells and tissues healthy, build and repair muscles and bones, and aid with hormone and enzyme production.
Protein supplements are formulated to support a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise, plenty of water, and rest. Animal-based foods such as beef, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy products are usually good sources of complete protein. Plant-based foods such as fruits, vegetable grains, nuts, and seeds by themselves often lack one or more essential amino acid (incomplete protein) unless they are combined (e.g., beans with brown rice).
